Our History
Our legacy is rooted in operational achievement. Founded in 2006 by a former U.S. military intelligence and Clandestine Service Officer, MASY is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that consistently brings unparalleled insight. We are a premier provider of highly tailored services within the Intelligence Community (IC). Industry recognition includes the prestigious Department of War (DoW) Nunn-Perry Award for exceptional contract support and mentorship.

Mr. Alex Anyse is Founder and CEO of MASY. A former Clandestine Service Officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency, he specialized in sensitive operations in the Balkans, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Alex is the recipient of various military awards that include the Bronze Star Medal for service in Afghanistan.
A subject matter expert on leadership growth and security issues, he’s been a guest speaker addressing audiences in the U.S. and internationally including global corporate companies as well as academic institutions such as Georgetown and Columbia University.
Born in Paris, France, he earned a Global MBA from London School of Economics and Political Science, New York University Stern School of Business, and HEC Paris School of Management (TRIUM). Alex shares his passion for leadership and mentorship as a Member of the http://www.globally.org Board and is longstanding supporter of http://www.smiletrain.org and http://www.bandofrunners.

What Drives You?
I’m motivated by challenges and a constant desire to learn. Whether it’s tackling a complex problem or exploring a new idea, I’m always looking for ways to grow and learn.
Ms. Donya Bernstein is responsible for all aspects of accounting and the financial reporting functions of the MASY Group, LLC. Her responsibilities also include ensuring adherence to accounting policies and procedures, monitoring internal controls, financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, and government compliance.
Donya has over 25 years of accounting, compliance and financial systems experience with federal government contractors.
Donya holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting from George Mason University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Marymount University.

Mr. Michael Massarini is Chief Growth Officer of MASY. A former U.S. Air Force Counterintelligence Officer, he specialized in sensitive investigations and operations as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
With more than 20 years in government industry, Michael has served as a leader and growth executive in Fortune 100 businesses. He has also owned, operated, and successfully grown small businesses in the national security space.
Michael is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he majored in Government and International Studies. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore. He remains active with his alma maters, having served on the Board of Directors at Archbishop Spalding High School and volunteering regularly with the Notre Dame Club of DC.

What drives me is the opportunity to build an environment where our people feel supported and MASY’s strategy can be executed effectively.
Ms. Mia Baldy has over 10 years of institutional knowledge and HR experience, Mia handles any and all issues related to employee management. She also leads the Talent Acquisition team and assists in management of operations.
Mia is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SHRM-SCP) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from George Mason University.

Hmmm…What drives me? Caffeine? Just kidding (sort of)! Watching my children pursue their passions, chase their dreams, and grow into the people they were always meant to be.
Ms. Kate Layton has 17 years of experience in the Intelligence Community (IC) as both a federal employee and a contractor. Prior to joining MASY, she was an Imagery Analyst at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency where she primarily worked in the African AOR and led teams of analysts reporting on humanitarian issues. Kate is a seasoned intelligence professional. Upon joining MASY she spent three years at the Defense Intelligence Agency where she developed and oversaw training courses for foreign Military Intelligence Officers. Kate is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s portfolio of contracts. A certified PMP, Kate excels at blending her understanding of the IC and DoD mission with her ability to foster communication and coordination across contributors, customers, and stakeholders.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University.

What Drives You?
Advancing training beyond legacy.
Mr. Martin Hansen has specialized in providing security and force protection training in support of various agencies in the Washington D.C. area for the past two decades. Since joining the MASY team, his primary areas of focus have been instruction and program management. Stemming from his instructional support efforts, he has concurrently overseen the development of MASY’s custom-built PureSA software, designing and implementing practical surveillance training solutions informed by the specific needs of real-world schoolhouses.
Before moving into formal product leadership, Martin played a key role leveraging his subject matter expertise to shape our training solutions from the ground up. Now, he works hard to ensure product decisions remain grounded in measurable value and everyday usability.
Grounded in faith and family, Martin balances his professional work with time spent with his wife and children and playing guitar at his church. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from George Mason University.

Knowing that my presence can make the team stronger and people’s days brighter is what motivates me to show up at my best every single day.
Ms. Susan Sohn is an accomplished professional who currently holds the position of Director of Support Operations at MASY HQ. With her exceptional leadership skills and strategic mindset, Susan oversees and manages all the daily operations within the organization, ensuring smooth functioning and optimal efficiency. Susan’s experience in the military has contributed to her success in her current role. Prior to joining MASY, she served as a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer, with a combat tour in Iraq as well as several tours in the Asia-Pacific region, where she focused on strategic intelligence.
Susan earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a Minor in Civil Engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a coveted spot as an East-West Fellow, allowing her to continue her Economics studies at the University of Hawaii and receive her MA in Development Economics. She continued to receive a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.

Mr. Steven Barva serves as the Director of Contracts for The MASY Group. Steven has 20 years of Government Acquisition and not-for-profit experience that has gained him a unique outlook, business acumen, and leadership perspective. Prior to joining MASY, he served as a US Government Civil Servant, retired from the United States Army, and supported multiple not-for-profit organizations.

My next challenge is to see a baseball game in every MLB stadium during the same season.

What Drives You?
I am driven by any opportunity to contribute my skills and make a difference, big or small, in supporting those around me. I’m a perfectionist (perhaps to a fault) because I believe everyone deserves the best that we can offer to each other.
Ms. Arelis Resto currently serves as the Marketing and Proposal Manager for MASY, overseeing and launching all public-facing material as well as supporting business development initiatives. She is a detail-oriented professional and creative with over 10 years of experience in writing, editing, and marketing design.
Whether crafting dynamic content, refining best practices, or capturing compelling photos, Arelis upholds a high standard of quality contingent on continuous improvement. She prides herself in being an ambitious self-starter with the ability to exercise both analysis and innovation for effective project management and solution strategies.
Arelis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Writing & Literature as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts with a minor in Art History from Jacksonville University.

Board of Advisors
Major General Christopher P. Hughes retired from the U.S Army after 35 years of active duty and brings leadership experience from platoon to two-star command. He served as Chief of Staff to the U.S. Army Pacific Command and is the co-founder and first Provost of the Army University. He gained national recognition while commanding an Infantry Battalion from the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Mr. Hughes assisted in the creation of five major organizations within the Department of Defense and served as an investigator on the USS Cole Commission in 2000.
Mr. Hughes received many awards and recognition throughout his career, including the Distinguished Service Medal (OLC), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2 OLC’s), Bronze Star (OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC’s), Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Airborne and Air Assault wings and multiple sets of foreign jump wings.
Mr. Hughes is the author of War on Two Fronts: An Infantry Commander’s War in Iraq and the Pentagon and a 2008 recipient of the Army Historical Foundation’s Distinguished Writing Award for Excellence in U.S Army Writing. Mr. Hughes holds a master’s degree in Business Management and National Security Strategies.
The Honorable Joyce A. Barr retired from the Department of State after 37 years of service in 2017. Her last assignment was as Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Administration, and she is also a former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia. A career Foreign Service officer, she attained the rank of Career Minister. She is currently a Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech, a Fellow for the National Academy of Public Administration, a Regent for Pacific Lutheran University and serves as a director on several boards.
In other key assignments, Ambassador Barr was the first civilian Interim Chancellor of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (now the Eisenhower School) after serving as Deputy Commandant and International Affairs Advisor. She served as Executive Director of the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau and had overseas tours in Asia, Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In addition to State Department awards, Ambassador Barr received the Joint Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She was also inducted into the National Defense University’s Hall of Fame in 2018. She earned a BA in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University, an MPA in Public Administration from Harvard, and an MS in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at National Defense University. She also received an honorary doctorate and a distinguished alum award, both from Pacific Lutheran University.

Ms. Karyn Eliot is a retired CIA senior executive with extensive experience in U.S. national security science and technology programs, intelligence operations, acquisitions, policy, and strategic industry partnerships. Ms. Eliot has a global perspective resulting from more than 20 years of leading international collaboration. She liaised with Fortune 50 C-suite executives to enhance business acumen at CIA.
Her assignments span the Agency and include; Director of Industry Partnerships and Foreign Partner Mission Manager in the Directorate of Science and Technology, Technology Lead in the Director of CIA’s Operations Group, Senior Technical Representative in the Directorate of Operations, Deputy Chief of Station for Technology in the European and Asia Pacific regions, and Deputy Director for Policy at the NRO.
Ms. Eliot’s notable awards include the CIA Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal and the National Intelligence Exceptional Achievement Medal. Ms. Eliot was educated at the National War College and Northeastern University.

After over 36 years of active-duty service, Lieutenant General Ashley retired from the U.S. Army in 2020, assuming his last duty position in 2017 as the 21st Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). He formerly served as the Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, where he was the senior advisor to the Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff for all aspects of intelligence, counterintelligence and security.
Other key assignments include the Director of Intelligence, United States Army Joint Special Operations Command; the Director of Intelligence, United States Central Command; the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, International Security Assistance Force and Director of Intelligence, United States Forces, Afghanistan; and Commanding General, the United States Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, AZ.
Lieutenant General Ashley has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Appalachian State University, a master’s degree in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University (formerly known as the Defense Intelligence College) and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. Lieutenant General Ashley was awarded a Doctorate honoris causa from the National Intelligence University in July, 2022.

Mr. Ed Bachl is a former CEO and current board member with over 35 years of experience in the Defense Intelligence and Information Technology sectors. Ed worked in technology and operational intelligence leadership positions in Europe and the Middle East with several large defense businesses before co-founding Vykin Corporation in 2009. While serving as Vykin’s CEO the company grew to 200 employees supporting defense and intelligence customers in 12 countries and 36 operating locations. Ed led Vykin’s merger and acquisition with SOS International (SOSi) in 2019.
After the acquisition he served as Senior Vice President for SOSi’s Defense and Intelligence Group leading 1,800+ employees in 12 countries providing next-gen solutions for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance sensors and electronic warfare as well as engineering, cybersecurity, and enterprise IT services/systems Additionally, he drove the consolidation , integration and alignment of four business units, led multiple “buy side” acquisitions and developed a non-attributable OSINT collection organization.
Ed is a retired US Air Force officer who served in various operational and staff assignments globally to include positions at USEUCOM, USCENTCOM and USPACOM. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and ITIL Practitioner. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Science, a Master’s Degree in Management and a post-masters in Human Resource Management.

General Dewey Everhart retired from active duty in November 2018, after 35 years in uniform. In his last assignment, he was the Commander, Air Mobility Command at Scott AFB, Illinois and was responsible for providing rapid global mobility and sustainment for America’s armed forces and partner nations. As the Air Force’s lead command for air mobility, he led the 120,000 men and women of AMC – active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and civilians – provided combat airlift, aerial refueling, air mobility support, and aeromedical evacuation with more than 1,100 aircraft from nine bases, 18 Wings, and 116 total force air mobility operating locations and was responsible for a $34 Billion portfolio. Currently, he is President of Everhart Strategic Consulting Group, LLC, Chairman and CEO of the Airlift Tanker Association, Strategic Advisory Board member of Goldratt Consulting North America, Advisory Board member to MASY Group and Strategic Advisor to ProDIGIQ and Quantum Space
During his career, General Everhart held command at virtually every level, including squadron, group, wing, Air Operation Center, Numbered Air Force, and MAJCOM. The general was a command pilot with more than 4,700 hours in multiple aircraft to include the C-130 E/H/J, C-17, C-21, KC-46. He deployed in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN.
Raised in southern Virginia, General Everhart graduated from the Virginia Tech in 1983. He holds a Master’s degree in business management from the University of Arkansas and in national security strategy from the National War College.
